You have “auto select” ticked.Make sure you have your “move tool” (the arrow) selected, and in the upper left-hand corner there will be a box called “auto-select” with options for group and layer. Untick (deselect) this option, and Photoshop will no longer auto-select the object you have your cursor hovering over.You’re welcome.
